Dry needling is a special procedure that helps reduce acute and chronic pain in patients for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. It reduces muscle tension, promotes healing and can increase range of motion.
You may benefit from dry needling if you have neck, back, shoulder or arm/hand pain, headaches, jaw, knee, ankle and even foot pain. It can help many conditions such as fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis of the joints, TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder). It can also help carpal tunnel, tennis and golfer’s elbow. It can even help plantar fasciitis related pain!
Dry Needling involves having our specially trained and/or certified physical therapists insert disposable acupuncture needles into your skin, muscle or other painful regions.
It works on tight muscles locally by releasing myofascial trigger points that cause and refer pain to the body. It works on tendons, ligaments, painful joints and other painful areas in a similar fashion by normalizing high concentrations of pain-causing chemicals. It decreases muscle tension and pain to these regions.
Dry needling is not acupuncture. Physical therapists use acupuncture needles but the reason why and exactly where needles are inserted, is based on Western medical science and research.
