DRY NEEDLING

Dry needling is a technique physical therapists use to treat myofascial pain. The technique uses a “dry” needle, one without medication or injection, inserted through the skin into areas of the muscle, known as trigger points.

Dry needling is not acupuncture. Dry Needling treats soft tissue areas known as trigger points.

A trigger point is a taut band of skeletal muscle located within a larger muscle group. Trigger points can be tender to the touch, and touching a trigger point may cause pain to other parts of the body.

Dry needling involves a thin filiform needle that penetrates the skin and stimulates underlying myofascial trigger points and muscular and connective tissues. The needle allows a physical therapist to target tissues that are not manually palpable.

Physical therapists use dry needling with the goal of releasing or inactivating trigger points to relieve pain or improve range of motion..

Symptoms Dry Needling can address:

  • Post traumatic injuries, MVA’s, work related injuries
  • Athletic overuse injuries
  • Acute and Chronis tendonitis
  • Chronic pain conditions
  • Headaches and whiplash
  • Lower back pain
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Sciatic Pain
  • Hip Pain
  • Repetitive Strain Injuries

I highly recommend this PT center!! All of the staff is warm, helpful, and supportive (front staff, PTs and PTAs). After months of chronic pain and no formal diagnosis, I went to rehab and utilized dry needling. Linda Anit is an incredibly warm and helpful PT who was able to help me regain functionality as a mom of two young children and one who is medically dependent. She concluded I had a significant abdominal muscle strain and I am so grateful for Linda's dedication to my case. She was willing to try new things to help me regain strength and functionality. After 3 months of PT, I am virtually pain free and can fully take care of my children without hesitation. I am so grateful for Proactive PT!

Katie, Linda, and their entire team at ProActive PT in The Woodlands are very professional and really care about their patients. You are seen promptly, and they take the time to make sure all of your questions are answered. My comprehensive care plan was thoroughly outlined to me when I was being seen for my C-section rehabilitation. I gained back strength and mobility, and they were able to take off so much of the swelling and edema. They are utilizing a broad spectrum of techniques including electrotherapy, ultrasound, cupping, dry needling, manual stim, and more. I'm back to my routine at the gym, and feeling even better and stronger than before my pregnancy. Thank you ProActive Team! You're the best!

For over a year I've had an ongoing problem with a torn hamstring that prevented my running. I tried everything doctors advised me to do; even went to hospital and had a high hamstring injection to no avail. Finally was prescribed physical therapy at Proactive and it was the most beneficial of all things I had tried! It took 2 rounds of PT. Then I began the dry needling and did the PT at home. Along with the needling I also used my masseuse to massage just the hamstring area twice a week for half an hour. I have followed the running plan given to me and am up to 3 miles! These guys are the best you'll find from office staff to PT specialists!
