THE KINESIOTAPE METHOD

WHAT IS KINESIOTAPING?

Kinesiotaping is a therapeutic taping procedure that utilizes an elastic tape applied over the area of dysfunction to target that patient’s specific needs.  Made internationally popular because of all of the Olympians that used Kinesio Tex Gold (same tape used by all ProActive clinics) at the 2008 Beijing games, it is imperative to know that it is used for more than just athletes. There are numerous techniques that your therapist can employ to achieve the desired results. Some of the many benefits of kinesiotaping include:

  1. Pain relief
  2. Assisting and suppporting tight muscles to allow the muscle to relax
  3. Affecting change in the deep tissues to allow improved circulation and lymphatic drainage to enhance healing and decrease swelling
  4. Promoting proper posture and joint alignment
  5. Muscle facilitation to help weak or underused muscles function at a more normal level

Kinesiotape is heat-activated and therefore “sets” to your skin in approximately 30 minutes.  You can shower with it and continue your normal daily routines. It will typically last about 2 days before it begins to  come off.  We will usually re-apply the tape at each treatment session.

Your therapist will determine if the kinesiotaping technique is recommended for you and will further explain the details.  Feel free to ask about it!!
